1. FRACTURED FAIRY TALES

Read the extract  Fractured Fairy Tales & watch the Shrek clip and do the questions below:

  • Watch the Shrek clip and write down how many Fairy Tale creatures you found. Which Fairy Tales are they from?
  • Explain what the movie The Brothers Grimm is about. How is it a fractured Fairy Tale?
  • In Groups: Think of a Fairy Tale: Write down it's original characteristics (as in the list above) and then think of new ones.:
  • In Groups: Create a new story including all the characteristics (OPTIONAL: present this in SHOW YOUR WORK at the bottom)

2. FAIRY TALES VS SUPERHEROES

Read the extract that looks at the differences between Fairy Tales & Superheroes.

Now do the exercises below:

  • In what ways are Fairy Tales & Superheroes similar or different? Explain.
  • In Groups: Take any Fairy Tale and re-create it into a Superhero story [i.e Snow White is raised by seven Robots] Write a new plot in max. 300 words. (OPTIONAL: present this in SHOW YOUR WORK below)

3. SHOW YOUR WORK

If your teacher allows it (and if there is time), here is an optional activity using the two stories created in the previous exercises of this lesson:

  • OPTION 1: Act out/Present the Fractured Fairy Tale . The rest of the class should guess which Fairy Tales were used to create the new story.
  • OPTION 2: Act out/Present the new Superhero story. The rest of the class should guess which Fairy Tale was adapted to re-create the story.
